NEW YORK – Textile innovator Nanobionic was one of 10 finalists to be selected by NASA at its iTech forum in New Mexico, USA. Chief technologists from the space agency whittled down technologies thought to potentially pose solutions for astronauts.

At the event, held from 7-8 October, four categories were established as judges looked to assess the scope for innovation across various fields. These included: energy storage density, power-efficient technologies, medical breakthroughs, and radiation protection, mitigation and hardware.

That said, a five category was established which showcased what the organisers called ‘x-factor’ innovations; this, providing a platform for technologies that didn’t fit the aforementioned, “but could significantly impact space exploration”.
