ANN ARBOR – Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, which genetically engineers spider silk based fibres, has announced that it has successfully produced its largest-ever recombinant spider silk cocoons from its new line of hybrid transgenic silkworms.

The company created the cocoon at its research facility in Michigan by combining its best performing recombinant spider silk with a commercial strain, the result of which will allow the biotechnology company to reduce handling costs and create longer silk threads.
