GRENOBLE - Scientists have developed a stretchable biofuel cell, worn against the skin and capable of producing electrical energy from sweat, which could lead to wearable electronics powered by new environmentally-friendly biodevices.

The flexible device, developed and patented by CNRS researchers from Université Grenoble Alpes in France and the University of San Diego in the USA, is already capable of continuously lighting an LED.

It is worn against the skin and produces electrical energy by transforming the compounds present in sweat, according to a report in the Advanced Functional Materials scientific journal.
