WASHINGTON – Researchers at the University of Washington are developing a method of digitally encoding data within conductive fabrics by integrating a magnetized pattern that can only be decoded by a corresponding magnetometer.

The team believes this technology could be a proof-of-concept for digital locks which could be used to replace hotel door keys, smartphone passcodes and more.
