GEELONG – A research team at Deakin University in Australia has developed a method of creating a functional aerogel from waste denim by implementing advanced textile recycling methods.

Led by Dr Nolene Byrne and PhD candidate Beini Zeng, along with Deakin’s Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) and the School of Engineering, the team has discovered a method of dissolving denim in liquid solvents to yield an aerogel solution resembling synthetic cartilage.
