MASSACHUSETTS – US Defence Secretary Ash Carter has announced the development of a US$317 million textiles manufacturing hub to be based at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The hub will see researchers looking to develop technical textiles and futuristic fabrics which have been imbued with smart properties, and will see tectile technology firms and textile manufacturers brought together to create fabrics that can "see, hear, sense, communicate, store energy, regulate temperature, monitor health, change colour, and more," according to the Pentagon.
