STONY BROOK – New York-based molecular technology company Applied DNA Sciences, along with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), have said that unique DNA molecular tags can be used to authenticate denim, even after it has been subjected to the rigorous practices that are standard in the industry.

Molecular tags produced by Applied DNA were used to treat denim swatches, and then faced stone and bleach washings. The samples were then analysed at Applied DNA’s laboratories, where the company reports that the DNA tags remained intact and suitable for high quality forensic scale analysis.
