AMES – University researchers are working on a US$1.5 million programme to develop more effective heat-protection gloves for firefighters and other first responders.

The work is being funded by the US Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency and carried out by a team at Iowa State University.

Guowen Song, an associate professor and the Noma Scott Lloyd Chair in Textiles and Clothing at the university, is leading an interdisciplinary team on the project.
