TAIPEI – Taiwanese manufacturer Makalot Industrial will lead a “national team” of firms with a mission statement of rapidly scaling the production of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the country.

Makalot once explored the development of protective hospital gowns back in 2003 amidst the SARS epidemic, but wasn’t required to roll out its latr patented design as the contagion fizzled out.

The business says it will pick up where it left off with an initial target of 100,000 gowns by the end of April with the idea of an additional 220,000 produced later from its factory in Vietnam.
