CALIFORNIA – A research team from the University of California believes it has made a breakthrough in the fight against airborne, potentially fatal, pathogens, after developing a method of electrospinning polymer-based nanofibrous membranes within fabrics which produce biocidal reactive oxygen species (ROS). Found to actively destroy bacteria on contact, these ROS are produced in response to sunlight but, unlike previous attempts to integrate such a technology within PPE, remain active in dim or dark conditions.
