LEEDS – New research from the University of Leeds in collaboration with Stockholm University has brought into question the fluorochemical-based water repellent treatments manufacturers use on consumer apparel, stating “environmentally-friendly and biodegradable solutions are available, but are being resisted by some manufacturers and retailers."

The researchers surveyed 300 outdoor apparel users, the majority of which said they only look for water repellency in their garments, not stain resistance.
