MASSACHUSETTS – A research team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has developed a method of streamlining the production of knitted garments by introducing machine learning – through which pre-programmed information is able to translate photos of a fabric’s construction into replicable actions.
It’s therefore thought that the ‘InverseKnit’ system could be leveraged by designers who need no knowledge of the technicalities of garment manufacture. Instead, they can leverage what the MIT team calls ‘CADKnit’; 2D computer-aided design software that will simplify implementing design tweaks prior to production.
