DELFT - Scientists have used 3D printers and a novel bioprinting technique to develop a sustainable material made from algae which they say could produce sustainable clothing for the fashion industry.
The researchers say the material is eco-friendly, biodegradable, and simple and scalable to produce - as well as being tough and resilient enough for other applications such as space exploration.
Lead author Srikkanth Balasubramanian, of the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, said: “3D printing is a powerful technology for fabrication of living functional materials that have a huge potential in a wide range of environmental and human-based applications.
