MASSACHUSETTS – A team of researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a new fibre, the first of its kind with digital capabilities that could be used to store, sense and infer information.

The academics believe the potential for this smart textile could span sport, healthcare and beyond.

“This type of fabric could give quantity and quality open-source data for extracting out new body patterns that we did not know about before,” said MIT PhD student and lead author, Gabriel Loke.
