ATLANTA – A new study into the impacts of human exposure to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) will be among the first to focus on the risks posed through the use of everyday products including textiles treated with the chemicals.

Dubbed "forever chemicals" for their durability in the environment, PFAS are widely used as a water- or stainproof coating on textiles and have been linked with major health issues including liver damage, thyroid disease and cancer.

The upcoming research project will be carried out by the Chemical Insights Research Institute (CIRI), part of the UL Research Institutes non-profit, and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
