RONSE – Textile finishing specialist Devan Chemicals has been awarded the 2020 European Technology Innovation Leadership Award for its BI-OME antimicrobial treatment, which has proven an effective against airborne viruses such as SARS-CoV-2.

The Belgian firm recently worked with the Institut Pasteur de Lille in France to test the textile coating against both enveloped – such as H1N1 and corona-type – and naked viruses like the rotavirus, and “showed strong to excellent activity in wet state”.

“By providing non-migrating antimicrobial technology for the textile industry, Devan plugs the safety and performance gaps inherent in current inorganic and organic antimicrobial agents,” said Monami Dey, industry manager at Frost & Sullivan, which hands out the award.
