LONDON – Clothing technology company Vollebak is claiming a breakthrough with its latest product which it claims is the industry's first black t-shirt to be dyed with algae.

Vollebak’s black algae t-shirt was created in partnership with bioscience company Living Ink in a bid to find a more sustainable way of dyeing garments black.

“Finding a new way to create the colour black is a sustainability priority for us because the conventional approach relies heavily on carbon black – a pigment derived from petroleum,” said Vollebak co-founder Steve Tidball.
