NORTH CAROLINA – Engineers at North Carolina State University have developed a fibre for soft robotic applications which pairs the strength characteristics of metal and the elasticity of rubber.

Published in Science Advances, the concept incorporates a gallium metal core fabricated with a rubber sheath of poly (styrene-ethylene butylene-styrene) (SEBS) to yield a fibre that can stretch seven times further than a metal alone typically would.
