HONG KONG - Researchers at the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) claim to have invented new technology which uses soundwaves to separate microplastics from wastewater.

The Acousweep plug-and-play app can be easily transported and connected to any wastewater facility, according to HKRITA which developed the technology with support from the H&M Foundation.

With synthetic textiles blamed for 16-35% of global microplastic pollution, HKRITA says Acousweep - if implemented at scale - could have a significant impact on the fashion industry’s environmental footprint.
