EMERYVILLE – Biotechnology company MycoWorks has announced a partnership with GM Ventures, the investment arm of car manufacturer General Motors (GM), as it explores its innovative material’s potential for use beyond the fashion sector.

MycoWorks’ material is made from mycelium, a root-like structure grown by various types of fungi to absorb nutrients.

“Working with General Motors to introduce fine mycelium to the automotive industry is an enormous step forward in the global new materials revolution,” said Matt Scullin, CEO of MycoWorks. “MycoWorks's collaboration with GM is a first for us outside of the fashion industry, demonstrating the enormous potential and applications for Fine Mycelium.”
